Limbs

Bones&Limbs Kinder Album ceramics are philosophical images of war, reflections on the past and the future. The exposition consists of two series created during the war. The Bones series is a reflection on the “future past”, on what will be left after us, on bones and archaeological artifacts that may one day be found. As the artist herself says: “Ukrainians are the descendants of Trypillians, Scythians, Polovtsians, Tatars and I am inspired by the thought that we have not forgotten their art, and just like them, we will leave our sights on this land.” Limbs series is a certain illustration of the present, the main object of which is the body. The body as a way of life with its fragility and vulnerability, it irrevocably changes from the circumstances, brutally corrected by the traumas caused by reality. In the project, the artist in her own ironic way forms the image of the generation growing up with deep wounds caused by the war. To emphasize the absurdity and ambiguity of perception during the war, the author uses figurative images in combination with an audio recording of imitation of an air alarm siren by children’s voices – a military children’s joke to scare adults. Thus, the circle of life distorted by military reality is closed. /Yulia Sapiga, curator/

Dollar

A mat composed of 1,146 ceramic beads, symbolizing ancient forms of money — a memory of the natural, primordial value of things. At the center of the work is the sign of the modern dollar — a new icon of power that has displaced all previous systems of meaning. Today, similar mats made of wooden beads are often found in taxi drivers’ cars — as both a decorative interior element and a back massager. In this work, an everyday, almost humorous object is transformed into a carrier of a symbol of global control and dependency, where the material becomes a metaphor for the system in which we exist.
